Chrome beta for iOS lets you move the address bar to the bottom like Safari

Google's Chrome browser for iOS is testing a new option that allows users to move the address bar to the bottom of the screen, similar to what Apple did with Safari in iOS 15. The feature is currently available in the Testflight version of Chrome for iOS, and users can switch the address bar position by pressing and holding the bar or by changing the setting in the app¹.

Bottom address bar for an ergonomic experience

The bottom-placed address bar is designed to make it easier to browse with one hand on large-screened devices, as users can reach the bar without stretching their fingers. However, not everyone likes this change, and some users may prefer the traditional top-placed address bar. That's why Chrome and Safari both offer the option to choose the address bar location according to personal preference.

Just a beta, for now

Google has experimented with a similar feature for Chrome on Android in 2020, but it was discontinued later. It is not clear whether Chrome will roll out this feature to all users on iOS, or whether it will remain a beta option. However, it is likely that Google wants to provide a consistent and convenient interface for users who use both Chrome and Safari on their iOS devices.

Want to try ?

If you want to try out the bottom-placed address bar on Chrome for iOS, your can join the Testflight program and download the latest beta version of the app from here.
